Newsletter Editing Troubleshooting Tips
There are a few reasons why images might not display in Outlook. The Outlook client uses Microsoft Word to render HTML. This can cause potentially cause problems when viewing emails in Outlook due to it's lack of full HTML support.
- Typically the first reason is the customer has to click "Display images from external source" at the top of the newsletter in order to see your images. This is a security feature built into Outlook. You might see something similar in other email clients.
- Outlook has trouble with displaying images that are put into tables as background images. Sometimes that is required to fix other problems but it might be worth just inserting image normally.
- Using the Right or Left Align image properties does not make the image align. This is because Outlook does not support the html style float. If you require to right or left align an image we recommend placing the image inside a 1 by 1 table (single cell) and aligning the table in the Table Properties. Do not use the image as a background image in the table. This also allows you to put a caption under the image with ease as the text will stay with the image.
- Newsletter images sent to Outlook does not display at all or are not re-sizing. This is because Outlook 2010 and earlier unfortunately do not read the height and width styles put on the images. Our recommendation is to adjust the image size before uploading it to the website or newsletter. This is not only good practice but less work for the servers to serve up the images to the customer.
